I've been looking at getting a demb flip-it. If you shoot in portrait orientation with a flash in the camera's hotshoe, and rotate the flash so it's pointing up, are you able to easily move the flip it so it's directing light forward? Or is there any other solution to this inherent problem with the built-in bounce card - that when you switch to portrait orientation and point the flash up, the bounce card is pointing to the side?

When i am working fast (ish) I angle the flash head at 45 degrees so it stays the same for landscape or portrait. I used to move it each time but a) figured wear and tear was increased and b) sometimes for got
Will post a pic of what I mean later.

ah, that makes sense! So - you can attach the flip-it to any side of the flash head. Seems like this is the solution I'm looking for, thanks!

You attache the flip-it to the short side of the flash head. When you go to portrait it's a smooth transition to just tip the flash head to straight up. I've not used the flip it but the better bounce card is about the same thing. Works about as well as can be expected without a true bracket. Note that you still get some side shadow with it.
