I'm getting my first set-up and am going to go for Canon but i really need a full time fisheye and Nikon has a 10.5mm DX Fisheye f2.5 so why hasn't Canon seen that this is needed and made one! Do you think Canon has one in the works?
Is there any way i can contact Canon and ask or is that something that they would never tell the public until it was released? Is there anyone i can tell in Canon that this is a pretty important lense to make?
Surf, Skate and Snowboarding photographers need this for digital!
EF-S 10 or 11mm Fisheye f2.8 PLEASE! please! PLEASE!!!

yes but that becomes more like a 23mm on a 1.6x crop factor camera such as the 20D or 300D. A 10 or 11mm becomes like a 15mm f2.8 on these cameras
p.s. i meant nikon fisheye f2.8 not f2.5 sorry

Whats wrong with the 10-22 zoom?..

The 10-22 zoom is a great wide-angle lens, but it is rectilinear, not fisheye.

I know Tom, but why have part of the scene black when you don't have to...

You're thinking of the circular fisheye - The Canon 15 mm fisheye is not such a lens, and provides a fisheye image on full-frame, but no black circle. Same for the Sigma 15. I think it's the Sigma 8 mm fisheye that gives the round black framing - truly a 180-degree view in all directions, as opposed to the two 15's that give 180 degrees of coverage only at the corners.
I may be wrong, but I was thinking that the original poster wanted such a lens.

Here's a couple of examples of the 15 mm fisheye on a 1.3X 1D2 camera. Of course, on full-frame, the effect is even more dramatic.

What about the Sigma 8mm circular fisheye?
About the fishiest lens I've seen for a 1.6x sensor. :)

You're probably a very small minority that think that fisheye lenses are important. To me it's a gimmick lens not for real photography.

I bet Canon knows exactly how many 15mm fishes they sell....
and this have a pretty good grasp of how an EF-S model would sell, that is only useable on a small percentage of Canon's SLR models,..

Hey, thanks for the replys - true that they may not sell a whole heap but they have isolated the surf, skate and snowboarding photographers who truely use this lens very often. These photographers cannot necessarily afford a full frame digital and so have continued to use film. This lens may be a gimmick for some types of photography but it is very important for surf photography... pretty much every pro surf photographer has one as a main lens.
The results are outstanding as being in a barrel of water if you frame properly it doesn't distort the rider but accentuates the water throwing out without looking really unnatural. this can be the result:

(ps im not the photographer)
and yes i was talking about the 180' diagonal 15mm equivolent, not a circular.
Thanks again
Daniel.

Nice surfing pics...............I know I will be trashed for saying this but at this point of the game, you have no choice but to go Nikon.
EDIT: Hmmm...........I could've sworn they have a 10 fisheye??!!??

....a small but growing percentage.
I suspect that there'll be something out in the next year or so. Canon has committed to the EF-S mount now, and will be duplicating those lenses that need duplication for APS-C.

I would certainly think an EF-S fisheye would sell better than the EF-S 60mm macro.

I would too. Maybe the 60mm was an easy design (or maybe they already had designed one for APS). I don't know - if I were buying a macro lens, I'd want the longest one I could use.

It seems your only real options would be to use a film camera and a scanner, or sell all of your stuff and buy a 1Ds.
Film sounds good.

Sounds like you could get a job working for Ni**n to market their sensor's high ISO functionality.. Just tell them that high ISO isnt for "REAL" photographers.

yeah roanjohn im not sure i should look at Nikon... well obviously i have looked, but i think for the future canon is definatly better for me. And at the moment the 20D smokes anything Nikon in its price range, unless they release the D100's next generation.
I was wondering if there was any one at Canon that would talk to me about what the chances of this lens being made is because i searched and couldn't find any appropriate email addresses, would anybody here know who i could talk to?
Thanks everyone its good to have your input:D

Okay, is this a real photograph?

Or this?

They may not suit your taste (whatever that is), but they are, sure enough, real photographs. Both were made with full-frame fisheye lenses (in medium format, so the fisheye is full-frame for that format, similar to a 15 or 15mm fisheye on a 1DsII).

There is also the russian Peleng 8 mm fisheye (manual M42 lens) that should sell for around $250 ... good quality lens (from what I've heard) a lot cheaper than the Sigma.
And AF might not be that critical for that application.
Best regards,
Andy

Those are not the fisheye images I'm used to seeing. When I think of fisheye images I think of a complete circle with huge distortion of the image which is what most people probably think of when they think of fisheye. Your first image you cannot tell that it wasn't taken with a normal lens. Maybe because that's medium format but EF-S isn't for medium format cameras.

hellashot, that type of image is produced by a full frame fisheye which would have a 180' diagonal field of view, probably. which is the type i'm looking for as an EF-S lens which on a 20D could produce similar results as these medium format images - its just a matter of framing so straight lines arn't in particular parts of the frame btw these shots are really cool i reckon. I think they wouldn't have looked half as dramatic without the 180' field of view of the fisheye so it is 'real' photography. The type of fisheye you were talking about was circular and yeah they arn't really really functional but don't trash them until you understand them.

Actually, someone posted some amazing glamour shots taken with a fisheye lens. They were cool enough that I definitely want to get one someday.
