Classic shots, the third is a very original angle. Love the warm lighting in all of them.

Wow, come on tell the truth it's a remote control stuffed bird. How do you do it, absolutely fantastic. How long did it take you to get these? Are they the same bird, what lens do you use and of course what species is it?
Great work.

They are all the same bird, it was flying from one perch to the next for about an hour. I don't know the species of the bird, but it looks like a type of hawk (maybe a Harrier hawk). Anyone know the exact species?

I used the Canon 75-300 IS lens @ 300mm (Canon 20D camera). I wish that I had the 100-400 IS lens, but I'm still a couple of months away from affording that lens.

Here are the settings for each shot:

1. 1/1000 @ f/7.1 ISO 400
2. 1/1000 @ f/8 ISO 400
3. 1/1000 @ f/8 ISO 400

All of them cropped for dramatic effect and shot in RAW format.

From the third pic I would venture a guess that it's a red tailed-hawk. Looks like the light morph of a young adult. I assume you took the pic in S. Calif?

I must have a bad copy of the 75-300 IS lens because mine don't give me results like that. Great/amazing shots.

Wonderful shots. Well, folks, we all want the best lenses, but this work proves it's what's behind the camera that is more important that what's in front! Really nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful work, Sydor25... ditto to all the previous posts! As you are obviously doing a lot of things right, would you share some of your expertise regarding post processing? Specifically, what raw converter do you use? Do you sharpen in the raw converter or in Photoshop? Thanks if you can help this newbie who is struggling with sharpening issues, among other things.

Question......... how in the hell did you get shots like that with a Canon 75-300mm IS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Especially at 300mm!!!!!!! So many people who have the lens have said it goes very soft at 300mm.......... incredible...... anyway FANTASTIC shots, those are amazing!

Thatnks everyone for the kind words. I can't say that I do anything special in PS except the normal 300/.3/0 USM(now smart sharpen) and shadow/highlight adjustments. I tend to use the same adjustments for all my pics because it's just a hobby and I usually just print 4x6 prints. The largest I've printed so far is an 8x10. The shots also look better when printed, the "save for web" in PSCS 2 seems to mute the colors even more than PSCS 1.

Here are some more shots of the hawk:

Wow, awesome shots, especially with "only" 300mm. I struggle to get that close to a common duck with the 400mm! I've been dreaming of either a 500mm f4, or a 1D MkII with a 1.4xTC on my 100-400mm (560mm), and here are your perfect shots with 300mm! Note to self: Work on ninja birding skills.

Haha, yea really!!! 300mm!!! What'd you use some sort of cloaking devise?!?! Mask your scent?!?! Burry yourself in the dirt making only your lens visible?!?! Haha, these shots are just toooooo good for a 300mm IS lens!
