Such a complicated poll.... since it's so simple.

I'm satistfied with *some* images... but since I'm not satisfied with *all* I voted "no". However, I do feel like I'm improving... I like more and more of what I shoot (%-wise...)

you give the choice of 100% satisfaction and 0% satisfaction.... I'd have to say I'm closer to 100% than 0%, but I'm not satisfied with all of them, and I doubt I ever will be, but I don't think I suck too bad, so I vote "yes" :-P
I think there should be a choice for "in between" though

Yes, an "in between" option is missing.

Some YES some NO its down to %ages.

I have enough in the YES catagory to remain enthusiastic and positive and enough in the NO catagory to strive for continuous improvement and keep learning.

I voted yes because generally I am pleased. Out of most of my cards I get enough keepers to make me happy. There is always things that I want to improve on and hopefully that will come over time. I think there should have been a middle ground choice as I think that is probably where I am at.

Do you mean straight out of the camera or after I'm done editing it to my liking?
Are you talking about all the pictures I took or just the ones that I think are good enough to further work on in PS?

I decided since the poll is in "Talk about photography" where we are not suppossed to be worried about "techno weenie" subjects (sorry for borrowing the quote,. but I love it!)

...that the poll is not about "out of camera" but rather our completed work... however we like to complete it.

Likewise we are not in the "post processing" forum.. So I am interpreting the Doc's poll as directly as it is put to us..

Overall satisfaction with our completed work, based more on out knowledge, skill, and circumstances than anything having to do with equipment or PP.

Anyway,. this is how I chose to view the poll and voted along those lines.

I'm never satisfied with my images. One, I always know that I can get better. Two, I always find something about each of my pictures I don't like (even the best ones). I think it's a good thing overall as it forces me to keep trying to improve. The only problem is I don't always recognize when I get a really good shot.

I went Digital so I could take more shots to get the ones I am happy with if you are happy with all your photos then you are not taking enough chances ( or pictures ) or you are the best PRO alive.

I am sometimes happy but not always so I voted No.

As I can't understand the question, I'll refrain form answering the poll. Exactly what do you mean Doc, or do I have to take up mind reading?

I had the same question as Leo. Do you mean pre-processed (i.e out of camera) or post-processed?
I would say yes to out of camera, given the capabilities of my camera and lenses, and no to post-processed, given that I still have a LOT to learn about Photoshop!

I assumed the finished product when I answered. For those that are shooting with a DSLR we all know that there is a degree of post processing required and it is not until that point of completion that you can actually say whether it is satisfactory or not. I've had some RAW files that looked pretty ugly but after working them for awhile I was satisfied with them.

I agree the question was left somewhat to interpretation.

Some yes, some no........so I'll refrain from a simple answer to a tough question, that has left others scratching their heads also.

I'm at step 16 on this chart, which I saw on POTN a couple of weeks back.

1. You start out with very little knowledge
2. You start doing research and realize it is much more difficult than you imagined.
3. You begin to pick up knowledge, the technical side of things.
4. You begin to use the technical knowledge and it works.
5. You start to feel as if you are mastering the technical
6. You begin to feel you know a LOT.
7. You start posting images that you are proud of.
8. You KNOW your images are better than much of what you see.
9. Family and friends start to oooo and aaaahhh at your images
10. Pro's don't seem to acknowledge you.
11. You think it's jealousy.
12. You reach a valley in your photography. You are starting to notice that your images aren't quite what you thought they would be.
13. You start to notice that, in your images, the models hands, the composition, the depth...isn't quite what you wanted.
14. Even your very favorite photograph isn't as good as you once thought. "I should have . . . "
15. You are now completely dissatisfied with everything you have ever shot.
16. You begin to realize that your photography is NOTHING compared to the masters.
17. You begin to see the differences in your photography compared to what you see published.
18. Now you are beginning to learn.

I hope you're not referring to me!

Well I said no, but I am a beginner on the digital side, and a forgetful old man (ok not so ol) on the film side. On the POTN scale above I am now firmly planted on level 3!! yeah!

Are you satisfied with your images? Which one? Maybe you should ask, "Which percent of the time are you satisfied with your images?"

ohenry

No matter how good they are, there's always room for improvement...so I'd have to say "no" to this black or white question.

No .. ! :)

Isn't that a "Ken Rockwell" quote? (the list? )
My mistake if it's not.. but you did use quotes so either way I was not referring to you! ;)

We used to say, if you get 1 or 2 good images off a roll of fim, life is good. I have found that with digital, its much the same. When I go out on a personal shoot I want to come home with a couple I am really happy with - not just so-so, but happy. I wish I could remember who the photographer who responded to a question - "how many great images have you taken"? Maybe a dozen, he said. It may have been Cartier-Bresson. And that was out of a life time and tens of thousands of images. I think the better you get, the less 'rose colored' the glasses are and the more honest we are about our own work.

I saw it somewhere on POTN, not sure where it came from originally.

My keepers rate is about one in three - or at least, after a day of shooting, I usually end up putting about 1 of every 3 pictures on my website.

Note: I'm not the kind of photographer who shoots hundreds of photos and hope that I end up with some good ones... I prefer to be patient, wait for the right moment, watch my subject carefully and make the photo at the right moment.

Not every photo I put on my website is a top shot, it only happens occasionally that I really like a photo and keep looking at it - for example from my holidays in India, where I made about 960 photos, there are maybe five photos that I consider really good.

Never completely.

But, then, I don't lose sleep over it.

For commercial stuff, if the customer is happy, I'm happy.
