Hey, we just got some of the strobies in at my local shop (North Tampa Photography) and they are pretty cool. They appear to work as well as the Lumiquest and Honl products. The only nit-pick I have about them is the flex mount attachment for the flash. Interfit chose to use the same mounting style as the original lightsphere instead of the new universal style with the velcro strap which means that you have to order a specific flex mount based on what flash you are planning to use.

Once you have the flex mount attached to your flash, the modifiers (like the barndoors & grids) snap into tabs on the mount.

We just received 2 of the EFX kits and a small assortment of flex mounts and individual modifiers friday afternoon and will have a chance to put them out next week. Hopefully the Portrait kit will come in soon.

Peace
Mark

Any updates? I am particularly interested in the beauty dish. Anyone used it?

I want a set. As I have a set of Interfit lights I also have several accessories, many a time I have wanted to cut the light down farther than the strobe will go. Now with their new frame to mount a flash in and use their accessories, I can drop the light as far as I need to.

What model of Interfit strobes do you have? I have Interfit Stellars 300 (2 Light kit), I need to use it more.. also purchased several accesories from B&H for it.

We're getting closer. Adorama has them listed now, but not in stock yet. Not sure when they snuck them online.

I have the same Stellar 300 as well. LOVE them. I dont have a need yet for anything stronger as I do mainly product work, and the lights are rarley more than 6 feet away from the table. However I am trying to change that. And will most likley expand with the XD 600's or XD 1000's.I debated between Interfit and the Alies Bees. I went with the Interfit as they have an aluminum body rather than a plastic one. Interfit is not popular here but it is hard to find a bad review on them.

I've got
2 x Interfit EXD200 (I mainly use this for fill light, hair light)
1 x Interfit Stellar 300 Main light
I love them!!!

Anybody use Beauty Dish with their Interfit strobes? Either Interfit or Speedotron or the ebay ones? Feedback and photos will be appreciated.

Just got my Interfit beauty dish - will be trying it out next weekend.
The initial tests look good(my model-daughter, however, was under the
weather, so I promised to delete the shots, and did!)
It's pretty well made, though a little small - I don't think it's size is going
to be a problem.
ps , really like my Interfits (stellar x 300s and 600s), good quality at a great price.

Can you post a pictureof the setup how the Dish looks with the Stellar 300?
Thanks.

I have the dish as well. It does fine. Just a bit small. But Bowens accessories are a direct fit, and they have a larger one.

Does anybody actually have the Interfit Strobies in their hands yet?

Ordered the Strobie XS bracket from B&H more than 2 weeks ago, when they were "accepting orders". Now they're on backorder.

I would also be very interested to hear from anyone who has actually used one of the Strobies yet. (By which I mean the ones that fit onto the on camera flash).

I'm starting to think these things are nothing but hype. Earlier this year they were claiming these would be available in early May. In July I ordered some from B&H. After several weeks of no activity I called Interfit directly. they assured me the units would be shipping by the end of August. Now it's early September and nobody has them in stock yet.

Looks like a great idea.

In the meantime I'm planning on fabricating my own.

Way to tick off your customer base Interfit!

Same thing happened to Radio popper with the JrX. I was ready to buy a good sized set. But they waited to long. I got tired of waiting and waiting and waiting then just went with another brand. So far I am happy with the cheep alternative so I have no intrest anymore in the Poppers.

I also think they seem a great idea, but I'd like to have some first hand experience from someone first. As they appear not to be on the market yet, are there any alternatives?

Have you guys looked at Adorama?

They show as being available and there's one review, though not very in depth.

http://www.adorama.com/PASTR100.html?searchinfo=interfit#ProductReviews

hehe. I know I started the post, but I've had some expenses come up and photography is still just a beginning hobby, so I've had to put this on hold.

It's ironic, just when I was about tired of waiting myself for them, not I have to wait on me.

Keep it going if you get info.

Yeah, I had the XS brackets on order. Those are still not available.

PS. I use Interfit strobies my sample photos are here:

www.flickr.com/banjo_d

I haven't used any other strobies so I can't really comment the difference between a well branded one but IMHO it really does the job for me. My perception is even if you use the best version and you don't know how to use its next to useless.

What particular Strobie did you use for the pictures of Alessandra?

Roy, ooops except that one... that's just 430EX II on a Portable Softbox. I wish I had ExplorerXT

So the first one on the page is the one you mean? Which Strobie did you use - and what do you think of it?

colourblindphotographer
15th of September 2009 (Tue), 15:02
Works for me well.. but really its how you control your strobes. I've got EXD200 and Stellar 300. The only problem with EXD200 is the colour temperature it changes after running it for a long time unlike Stellar 300 its very accurate. I've been told its gotta do with the way it was built, components wise. I always use a custom white balance when using these strobes even though I shoot RAW I hate adjusting the colour temp. If I could set it right at first so its less work flow.

Hey Roy. I've got a set and will post results once I have sufficient test shots. The dish and softbox were the softeners I wanted out of the kit and they are good once you accept the size limitations. If you get close enough with the dish and softbox to make them large sources, the light is good. They have limited use on-camera, IMO, but then I don't think much looks good on-camera.

I apologize for the model and the messiness of his face. I won't post any real tests until I have a proper model but I thought you'd like to see a quick shot from the Strobies beauty dish w/a 580 EXII.

http://imgur.com/BPpvu.jpg

Now you have to remember the size of the dish is only 6" so using the guide that the dish should be 1 to 2x that distance from the subject, the flash has to be really close to get that special quality of light. And with that you get a lot of fall-off. But you can appreciate the light it gives above; there are white walls surrounding for fill.

I've got the strobies twin umbrella kit which I'm very happy with, and posted a mini review round here somewhere. Looking at getting an XS bracket soon as it seems a decent size softbox to go on a flashgun is much more expensive than the ones interfit does for their studio strobes with the XS can bolt into. Looked at the flexmount and the gear that goes with it but I think the XS would be better for me long run.

Roy Mathers

Thanks Alex. It would seem from your comments that they have rather limited use.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. I would've had to bring out an umbrella to get the softness from the flash that I got from the dish... and that is 4 feet across vs. the 6-inch dish. The limitation is that you have to get close, for sure, but working within that, I like the results from it.

Much cheaper @ Brando. Free shipping right now too:

http://gadget.brando.com/professional-flash-set-soft-diffuser-honey-comb-conical-snoot-barndoor-mini-reflector-globe-diffuser_p00944c057d001.html

I also ordered their LED light, which is much cheaper than the Litepanels Micro Pro:

Has anyone gotten the XS Bracket?

I'm assuming the "S" type bayonet mount would work with a Speedotron modded to Elinchrom mount?

Yes and No.. You have to MOD the Speedotron with Bowens S Mount ring.

For the dish, would it be a good idea if the reflector is cut to a smaller size? (Suppose that's not too hard to do.) Then it doesn't have to be so close to the model.
