While shooting a H.S. baseball game, my camera ceased showing me the picture on the display. I was able to shoot, but the picture did not pop up on the screen, and even when I pressed "display" it would not show anything. I turned off the camera and turned it back on and the display still did not work.

It wasn't until I removed the battery and replaced it that it began working normally. I do have the latest firmware, btw.

Anyone else experience this?

I had my 1Ds Mark II for 10 days when I had a similar situation. One day, after taking over a hundred high school tennis photos, I headed cross town to photograph our junior high baseball team. Everything was fine after a few dozen photos, then I suddenly couldn't take another shot. I was using Tv mode and the camera displayed zero for the aperture. Nothing seemed to work, even after turning off and back on, and removing the battery. I finally removed and replaced the lens (70-200L IS) and it came back to life. I haven't had it happen again since, haven taken thousands of other photos. Knock on wood....

My biggest problem is dust. Both on the lens and on the sensor. The outdoor sports venues are dusty, so I never remove my lens while out. The camera is suppose to be one of the best for sealing out the weather. Of course I don't notice the dust on the pictures until later when I view the pictures on my computer. I'm sure a lot has to do with the high resolution.
