I like the first shot, but I think they both suffer from blown highlights and a serious WB issue.

may you talk about it more clear, TJ?

... shooting on such a bright day - has caused the background to be "blown". And shooting into the sun has also caused lens issues. Both photo's appear a little "Over exposed" (too bright) - if you shot them in RAW you could pull back (lower) the exposure a little to pull back some of the detail.
The WB (White Balance) issue is apparent in the "yellow cast" in both photo's. If you use the "dropper" tool to select an area that you know was white (the subjects T-Shirt for instance) you should see a marked improvment.

If you turn on "image editing allowed" (in your settings) I'll post a quick edit of the first photo.

converting to sRGB for web display is recommended.
I agree about the white balance needing some adjustment. But I don't find anything wrong with 'blowing' the highlights here. I find that it emphasizes a quality of light that works well with the mood of the images. Not all portions of an image need to have detail.
I really like the 2nd.

your high-key approach might not be intentional but the end result is very beautiful
if you got what you were after, do not listen to any advice
technical perfection is all very fine but beauty is a treasure
in your shots it looks as if an angel had accidentally landed in Central Park
a rare occasion and you caught it!

Cute images. Good advice already posted. The shirt hanging off the shoulder is bothering me.

Agree 100%. The second one is fantastic. The elements (glare) and angle is perfect. Very cool.

I actually really like that part of the shots. While not technically perfect, I love the mood of these photos. Good job. :)

I personally like the "glare" effect in these photos. And for me, the shirt hanging off the shoulder makes the photos. I would try to do a little white balance correction and leave the rest alone...but that's just me!

The shirt hanging off the shoulder looks feminine to me. I know many feel it makes the shot and that is fine.

For what it's worth I love the processing as well. A lot of people are saying to fix the white balance, but I personally believe that it adds a lot to them. I love the cross processed feel and look. See ... This type of processing doesn't work on all photos, in fact; a very small percentage. But, on these .. it's perfect.

I really like the look and "feel" of these shots (lens flare, WB, and exposure) but am on the fence about the shirt.

I agree totally, especially with the 2nd image. The lens flare, from shooting into the sun, lends even more to this.
I think you did a good job capturing the innocence here!

a three-year old just up from his afternoon nap is not exactly an impersonation of John Rambo...
