Don't you know?
Would have helped if I'd included that titbit - they are called Ramsons.
They are indeed wild, I found this growing at the side of a lane in the hedgerow.

thanks Damian
beautiful wild things
reading up about it tonight the young leaves are edible and make a tasty (if pungent) peanut butter sandwich
now you will be able to keep Martin and Rósin very happy:lol:
it's of the Lily family
the good news is the name is ancient from an old english name Hramsa
and appears as a prefix in the name of several towns and villages.
for example Ramsey in Essex, Huntingdonshire (I think Don's wife Leela has a daughter living there  and notice Don's name is included in the name :) )
and the Isle of Man
it is widespread and often abundant in damp woods, hedge- banks and shady streamsides, especially on lime-rich soils throughout Britain,
local in north eastern Scotland
very scattered in Ireland
(just like it's people)

stepping on them in the woods releases an over powering smell of garlic

stand well back from Una if you have that sandwich tonight Damian

Wow Marie your full of good information.
I had looked them up in my wild flower book, but yours seems to have much more information than mine.
I think I'll cut and paste your information and add it to my pbase site! :D

Wonderful shot Damian. And wonderful information Marie. I don't think we have anything like that on this side of the pond. I'll have to look in some of my books.
