I see Canon just released the Powershot S2IS to replace the S1IS, well the S1IS was released at the same time as the Pro1, so where is its replacements, should we be expecting anything? Anyone heard anything?
Perhaps the S1IS needed a bump up sooner due to its percieved lowly 3MP?

From what I'm reading, those 8 MP "bridge" compacts are not big-sellers and you may not see too many new ones, including the 2nd-generation Pro 1. Add to this the fact the Rebel XT is about the same price and many enthusiasts are going more upscale to the DSLR.
Personally, since the firmware upgrade on the Pro 1, it looks like great camera as it is. I don't know how much Canon could tinker with it to improve it - is it officially out of production?

There could be a place for a compact that uses the 8MP APS-C CMOS sensor. Fixed L glass, good zoom, could be a goer? Would have o be priced right though.
