I recently met a wedding photographer who uses a Nikon with speedlight & stofen Omni-Bounce, no flash bracket, with the flash tilted at 45 degree angle. He uses this set-up indoor & outdoor, regardless of ceiling or not. My question is: with a Canon 20D & 580 speedlite & stofen Omni-Bounce, will this set-up work? And, he says he doesn't need a flash bracket??? Thanks!

It sounds like he thinks he knows something different from the majority of the wedding shooters out there.

If a tree falls in the woods, and nobody is around, does it make a sound?
Does the photographer - NEED - a bracket if the customers are satisfied with his product? Or better stated, "if the customers don't complain"...
I'm not saying he couldn't achieve BETTER results, but his perception may be coming from his customers, most of which, are not photographers, and do not know what they COULD have gotten.
It would be curious to know how much "comparative" research he does.
You didn't mention the lens he was using - was it a "kit" lens?!...

I find the omni-bounce at 45 degrees works better outside than straight on - though I prefer naked flash to that. Inside I point it a bit more vertically.
I just got a Pro-T bracket, i'm not used it much but i'm happy with it so far.
