Southbound crossing the Tennessee River with a load of empty car carriers, presumably headed to Atlanta to refill them. You can see the heat distortion rising from above the engines.

I love it, Tom.

Do they ever raise that bridge?

I really like this shot, a lot. But that white spot on the bottom right is anoying image wise. it would be to hard to photoshop out. Personaly, I would probably crop it out. But yeah, keep up the good work. :)

Thanks, folks.

The white spot is a post that stood between me and my subject. Cropping would help there. I needed to situate myself in a little better spot for that one, though there isn't much room to wander around at the end of the bridge.

Tom, they don't raise this bridge any more. It sits pretty high above the water anyway, and the barge traffic just isn't that big.

OK - odd thing, I edited the image and replaced it on PBase - same file, same image number, but cropped to remove the white post. For some reason, the change didn't show up here. Are the images here cached?

I don't think that's the problem, Tom. I copied the address of the image and pasted it into a new window, and went straight to the old photo. Maybe you should give it a new address. I can edit the original post to reflect the new address if you want me to. Better yet, leave the old one there, and just re-post the edited one in a new post in this thread so we can compare them.

OK, here's the image address first:

http://www.pbase.com/photosbytom/image/42816747

And here's the image linked:

http://www.pbase.com/photosbytom/image/42816747.jpg

It doesn't seem to take the link even though the image number is the same. Maybe I'll just make a new file at PBase.

That is too weird.

I like the cropped picture better, though.

OK, I re-uploaded the cropped under a new file name:

You could be right, though. Maybe when we use the img tags it goes into a cache, although it doesn't explain why I got the old image when I copied the url and went to your photo site.

Did you copy the URL with the .jpg tag? Normally, PBase omits the tag for the page view, but advises that you add it when direct-linking. Maybe they have the ".jpg" version cached somewhere.

Maybe it's cached in my own computer. ??

Ohhh, I really REALLY like this shot now that you have it croped... I have been thinking of starting a collection of shots that other people have taken just as a hoby, and I would love to have this as a part of it if I start one.

In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the cropped image is mucho bettero.

In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the cropped image is mucho bettero.

I don't know why I didn't crop it in the first place - I guess train photos are too exciting to mess with.

Happy Cinco de Mayo (which is the reason I'm up early with a hyperactive stomach this morning). :)
