Disneyland's new summer fireworks show just started last week, so we just caught it before our passes expired on Sunday. Luckily we got a pretty good location in front of the castle without having too many heads in front of us.

Here are a few. Sorry for the small size, but the larger versions are too large to post here. They are available on the flickr link in my signature, along with some more shots from the night. One of these days I'll figure out exactly how the LR2/Morgify resize works.

C&C is always welcome and appreciated.

Very nice shots here! Looks like you did have a prime position. Any tips on capturing fireworks? I have not tried yet, and would like to give it a go this 4th of July. I'm sure a tripod and cable release are necessary, but could you share what kind of settings/lenses you use? Thanks!

Thanks Robbie.

These were all taken with a 30D and 10-22. In retrospect, I should have used my 17-55 since I don't think any shots were wider than 17mm and I did want to zoom in more.

The exif for each shot should be available on flickr, but in general these were shot at ISO 200, between 3-6 seconds and between f16-f22. The higher apertures was mainly because of the castle lights. Without the castle, I would have stuck around f16. If there are a lot of fireworks going off at the same time, these settings might not work for you. You might need to go to ISO 100 and maybe f20.

As you mentioned, a cable release and tripod are a must, but also be sure to use mirror lock up (MLU) to reduce vibrations.

Good luck and post your results.

wow, I think those are the best fireworks photos I've seen! I love the lighting on the castle and such. Absolutely gorgeous composition, color, everything.

I was hoping to take photos of fireworks this year (hence, my visiting this thread), but now I think I'll just throw my camera away. :-)

Seriously, thanks for the tips and great examples!
