Can't comment a great deal on the technical side, but I really like these. The guy is very photogenic. I like the first one the most.

I too like the first one. The second looks like you kicked him in the shin... :D

I like the first one. He has a very expressive look on his face. The second is nice, but the expression doesn't look natural.

One thought, it seems like you wanted to include the background into the story of the first one, but besides the fact that it's a building of some kind, it doesn't tell me much. I would have preferred it being even more out of focus to make the man pop out more or make it something recognizeable in order to convey a better sense of where you were.

wonderful portrait, wonderful face!

on the first one, the sky is overexposed on the top left corner and the spot right behind his neck.

overall i love the portrait and very very nice tones.

Oh I think the first looks great.
what lens and settings did you use, and post settings. I realy like the over look and feel of the photos.

I think I should have used different fstop to blur the background a bit more.

Post processing: i croped photo a bit, desaturated, added photo warming filter.

I really like number 1. As stated above, #2 looks unnatural. As to the DOF on #1, it could be better (more blur) but it does work. Getting rid of the fence running into his head would help too. Good subject, well shot.
