Hi all, just bought a flash for my 400d and have been messing around with it. After chasing my cats with it and getting a few snaps I came up with these. Cant decide if Ilike them or not but there a wee bit different to the usual stuff I do. C+C appreciated

There seems to be something odd with both these pictures. As Les said, the second one seems to be taken through glass of something, and the second seems to have missed the focus somewhat. It seems to me that the forehead is in focus, but the eyes (which should be in focus) seem to be 'glazed'.

Ye thought they were strange too but there was something about them that apealed to me.

Looks like your shutter speed was to low. Alot of motion blur in these. I would guess it was a longer shutter and the movement is showing after/before the flash pop. Thats why you have some detail (flash exposure) and some blur (shutter speed exposure).

Try increasing your shutter speed and remember the 1/focal length rule (multiply by 1.6 for a crop camera (XXXD and XXD series). So a 100 mm lens on 1.6 crop body would need a minium 1/160 shutter speed for handheld shots. (100 x 1.6 = 160)

Yup ... shutter speed. The speed on the first is 1/15. That combined with the high ISO is causing you to suffer motion blur. Not as bad as motion sickness, but still bad. :) Try shooting at 1/200.
