Edit: Removed pointless long rambling post asking something I know the answer to already.

While the MT-24EX might be nice, not having it won't prevent me from being able to take good shots and I can always get it later on.

If a mod wants to delete the thread, feel free!

Yeah, I would love to have an MT-24EX but I'm not willing to spend the money :-\ I think a lot of people on these forums get really nice results with a flash bracket + diffuser.

Not sure what gear you have, but a cheap lighting option for a macro lens like 100mm, 60mm etc and a hotshoe mounted flash is the Lumiquest Softbox. It will give nice soft light, and it gets over the front of the lens for close shots. Even with tubes. Get the Softbox, not the Softbox II or III.
