Only had my 20D for 3 days now. This is an upgrade from my 300D. I'm a bit surprised that it seems to over expose. It's nothing that can't be fixed with a coupla clicks in PS, or a slight adjustment to the exposure compensation. But it sure doesn't seem right. From threads I'd read previously, I would have expected a slight under exposure compared with the 300D? Interestingly, I'd always thought the 300D's metering was spot on, but it looks decidedly 'muddy' in comparison now.
I've (so far) had no problems with either the 20D locking up or the battery grip faults that are reported. Is it still worthwhile upgrading the firmware? I'm thinking; If it aint broke........

My 20D seems to underexpose more than overexpose, but I tend to use partial metering, or centre weighted some times. It rarely overexposes. Is your EC on zero?

I'm staying with the old tried and tested firmware until after the wedding i'm doing in a couple of weeks. It only upgrades to let it use a wireless adaptor that i'm never going to buy anyway.

My 17-40 often underexposes about 1/3 stop, and the Sigma 70-300 always seems to be perfect. I just use the compensation.

If you're having no problems, I probably wouldn't upgrade. I had probably 10 lockups over a 2month period, and only finally decided to get it about 2 weeks. Have shot another few thousand shots since then, and not one lockup. I think the upgrade fixed my small problem.

Strange; Thought Id play with the parameter settings. A tad more contrast would probably be enough to compensate for the slight over exposure. At either P1 P2 or my custom setting (Just increased contrast) there is no over exposure! And it's a bright sunny day today - much the same as yesterday.

yer my 20D over exposes more then it under exposes, in bright outdoor lighting condition anyway, complete opposite to my old D70 which used to under expose
