Suet to defeat starlings, grackles

Here's one answer to the suet situation -- it certainly has worked for me (even with hungry-eyed young starlings): it's a suet type that has only insects and none of the stuff like corn or peanuts or berries that the other birds like. The woodpeckers still come around but the starlings and grackles basically leave it alone. It's called Oregon Suet Block (http://www.oregonfeederinsects.com/Oregonsuetblock.html). Try it. You'll like it. One block will last here for two to three weeks.

How long does a regular suet block last? Mine last weeks during the summer. I just bought a box of 10 cakes in those plastic trays, for about $6.50. Of course I don't get starlings and grackles except early spring and late fall, and then they are welcome. :)

Maybe suppliment it with your burger and bacon drippings. Mine love that stuff, although in summer, it melts.

A suet cake here like Judy, last but a few days and there like $2.00 a cake, depending on what type you get.. Grackles are here all summer long too, so I don't put out many cakes..

My life is like one of those sitcoms where someone sits down to pay the bills, realizes she doesn't have stamps, gets up to go get stamps, sees the cat has knocked over the plant, cleans up the plant, realizes the garbage should be taken out, takes out the garbage, sees the pretty flowers... I don't have attention deficit disorder... oh LOOK! there's a CHICKEN!
