Last night, we sent two old SanDisk Ultra-II cards through the wash cycle in my jeans. My daughter found them in the bottom of the washer when changing over the clothes. She set them aside and brought them to me a couple of hours later when they were dry.

I plugged them in and every image was still there - they worked perfectly. Not that I'd recommend cleaning your cards this way, but wow...

I've done the same with a SanDisk SD card... found in the dryer actually. Still works like a charm, and smells linen fresh!

I've done that with a USB stick as well. Maybe flash memory is waterproof? hehe

I would not want to shoot a wedding with those cards.

Flash memory is non-volatile, as you all know.
Does not lose it's memory after power is shut off.

In my opinion, as there's no power in the cards at all, you run them though a washer, take them out, make sure they're completely dry, they'll still work.

A few years ago, I had taken a bunch of 1/2/4 meg CF and SD cards through various washes, pools, etc...
and for the most part, these cards all worked after drying out... most failures were after one card had been tested in various waters multiple times.
They did survive a freshly-chlorinated pool, followed by drying in the sun!

no, colors were okay, but I may try bleach bypass processing this way next time...

yep me too - don't shoot sports, hi-end fashion or ultra-high mp cameras, so I've never tapped out my camera>card transfer rates...
