I went shopping this weekend, I was looking for a hot shoe to PC adaptor for my G3. When out of nowhere my wife says "why don't you look at the Rebel XT?" Is this a trick question I thought?:) Am I dreaming? Well We spent about 45min in the store I was looking at the Rebel and the Rebel XT. I'm not sure which one I want to get. I like the size of the Rebel(much bigger than the XT), but the XT has more MP. Plus I can get the XT (with kit lens) for only 100 more than the Rebel.
What camera would you all pick and why?
This camera would be used mainly for Portraits in my studio (pets/people mostly)
What lens would you rec. for portrait work?
What do you feel are the Pros and Cons of either camera?
Thanks

Get the XT. It has better low light performance (ie less noise at high ISO), it's MUCH MUCH faster to use. There are probably other advantages, but they're the main ones I noticed moving from the 300D to the 20D.

Speaking of the 20D, I have heard that the internal components of the XT are pretty much the same as the 20D also. So basicly you are getting the 20D but in a smaller body. (I know the 20D is a better camera though)
Is this true?

I'm not sure which internal components you're referring to, but I do know that the sensor is different.

XT all the way. You get close to 20D performance in a value package. Good low light performance is ideal for studio work. The only thing I didn't like about the XT was the size. A good studio lens ... 50 f/1.4 or the bargain priced 50 f/1.8, and the 85 f/1.8.

Take your wife in public, then lay down on the ground and start kicking, thrashing and screaming until she gives in on the 20D. LOL..

Seriously. I loved my 300D with grip. The guts of the XT rock. Kinda small for me. I would get the XT as its one heck of a value camera. Mark my words, you will eventually trade up to the 20D.

Forget the Rebel......I have it and a friend has the Rebel XT. If I were starting over right now I would go with the XT even though it is a little too small for my liking. My friend however, has fairly big hands and doesn't seem to have a problem with the size of the XT. I myself am moving from the DRebel to the 20D in the next couple weeks. The Rebel is great for beginning, but you will soon long for the functions that the XT or 20D can provide you.

$100 different? Go with XT. Higher MP is only one of the enhancemence. The only downside I heard about is the size. XT's smaller body is harder to get a comfortable grip. Maybe a batter grip will help.

Thanks everyone.... The XT it is. :) I really do like the bigger size of the Rebel though. But I guess I can deal with that. I'll probably get the battery grip for it. Looks good and makes it a bit bigger. I have no doubt you are probably right dante, i'm sure i'll trade up sooner or later:). I will be using this to shoot dog agility competitions this summer too. I guess this will be okay for that too. I have heard that it's not the best for action/sports
