hi guys, im an user of portables flash like the canon 430ex and an old metz i have, but i dont know anything about monolights.

so im about to buy a basic equipment for wedding and events, something that allows me to photograph a maximum of 10 people in a wedding group or event group, something that "can do the work".

i am from venezuela and here we dont have the variety of equipment that you can buy in the us or another country, and the best i can buy here for a good price is the Elinchrom D-Lite 4 x 2 lights kit!

so i would like to know if that would be enough just for start in the world of wedding, at least while i can get some money to buy a better equipment. how many people do you whink i can photograph with that 2 lights kit, using an umbrella and one softbox? or two umbrellas... thank you in advance for your help!

Why do you want studio lights? I have some but haven't used them at my last 30 weddings. I use Speedlites, 550/580 units with CP-E4 batter packs.

The only time I bring my studio lights (a pair of 400w/s Genesises) is when it's raining and we have to move the portraits indoors. I often work with silver or shoot through umbrellas on my 580's with real nice results and they can get the job done, but I find the studio lights to be that much better, especially when I know I need to shoot some larger groups. Since the couple will be losing out on nice park-like pictures, this is a way for me to give them a little something back. But on a nice day, these lights stay in the studio where they belong.

hi, i want studio lights because here in venezuela the 99% of the weddings are in a big party room... and there is always a set ready only to shot photos, and for me it gives a more "profesional" look to the work im doing... thanks for your comments guys!

Elinchrom have a good reputation, you'll be right with those. Get their skyport triggering system too, if you rely on optical all the guest flashes will set off your strobes! The guest photos will be totally blown out, which is good for your print sales... but not good for your strobe recharge time.
