Found this guy in a "natural" bird setting at Brookgreen Gardens (http://www.brookgreen.org) just south of Myrtle Beach, SC. Taken with 100mm Macro Lens. 1/250th @ f4.5 ISO 1600, flash.

What a great shot. The 100mm macro really does make a goot portrait lens.

100 Macro!
It let you get that close,. ? Wow!
The ones I have seen have been the most cautious herons I've encountered... I've only gotten one decent shot and it was at 500mm...
VVery impressive stalking and wonderfull shot :)

Actually it is 100mm and 1:1 macro at the other end of the range. This was a 100mm shot. And this was in sort of an enclosed "rookery", which allowed the birds to operate in a natural habitat (they could roost in trees 100' up, but happened to be all withing reaching distance of me when I happened to stroll through - there are gates that close at each end, so they can't escape. That is what I meant when I indicated "natural". Should have clarified that probably. Still, it was a great place to shoot these birds, along with ibises.
