I just bought the 1D Mark II and want to sync it with the rest of my cameras but I can't get the EOS Viewer Utility to see the camera. My PC and laptop can both see the camera, and I have downloaded images through windows, but I'm finding it really annoying that I can't get this to work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software three times. Nothing!! I assume the newest firmware is on the camera...it's brand new. Can anyone help?

Did you install the 1DmkII driver from the software CD that came with the camera?

And which port are you using to connect to EVU, firewire or USB. It should be firewire. And I've always had to turn on the camera after I started up EVU, not before.

I think port choice is problem. EVU doesn't work with usb ports as Pacace said. You need to connect it through firewire.
I was bugging for quite some time first time because of same thing... and then I went to read manual :)

the usb port on the mk2 is not for picture download you can only download direct with a "OHCI COMPLIANT IEEE 1394 HOST CONTROLLER" connected to the port under the cover the lead supplied will only fit the 1394 slot

As a clarification, this is true when we are talking about connecting to the Canon softwares, such as the EVU. However, you can connect to Windows XP (not Mac, though) using the USB cable and have Windows Explorer recognize the camera as well as copy from the camera to the hard disk but the transfer will be very slow because of the USB 1.1 connection.
