View Full Version : What's your file count?

2 o'clock in the afternoon and not a single new posting :) Here's a topic for everyone:
The G-series, including Pro1 have been out for a long time by now. I purchased my G6 about two months ago and took about 1700 shots so far.
What is your current file count (that is if you did not reset it, of course) on your camera? If you upgrade from older digital model, how many shots did you take BEFORE the upgrade?
Cheers!

I know! I've been here 5 times today! I'm at 777 (unique number) and I've had mine for a little over a month.

Would that be the IMG XXXXXXX number of the file? If so I'm at:
IMG_29702 (Almost 30,000 Photos:) ) I have had my camera since about Sept. 2003 I think(can't really remember) Which would work out to about 49.50 photos per day for 18 months give or take a photo or two:D

I have been trying to figure out this very thing. We got our trusty G2 in July 2002. The exif info for the very first shot we took on it was 1000001. Dunno why they didn't start at all 0's? The most recent image number in the Exif info is 311183. Does this mean we have taken 211, 182 shots on this camera??!!!
Anyway, we have taken thousands and thousands of shots on this G2, the numbers "ticked over" like an odometer at least 2 times that I can remember offhand. This G2 still takes wonderful pictures, though my brother says that his G5 and his wife's G6 definitely are superior to my G2 shots in detail (macro). Even though the G2 is archaic by today's standards, it is a great camera and has been great for me to learn photography with. I take photos almost every day, and last year when I and my daughters went to Scotland we racked up several thousand right there.

Well... On my G1 I have taken 5771 pictures. I got it back in December of last year. I just upgraded to the DRebel XT and already have 489.

Hmmm... some 15,000 on the G2 from 2003-1 to 2005-1 and some 4,500 on the 20D since then.
Don't ask me about the number of keepers, though
Best regards,

11,000 on 20D since December 15th. Previous camera Nikon 5700 about 2000 - traded in pretty fast and prior to that CAnon A70 since around July 'O3 to Sept / Oct '04 about 8000.
Thank God I am not using film.

My Sony V1, had it for 16 months, until I dropped it mid January. 12,114 shots
20D, had since Jan 30th, but no lens until 4th Feb. The last shot I did 3 days ago, was # 25,549.
It's so much easier to shoot more, when you have a faster camera, and more memory.
Basically wherever I am, limitations are only memory capacity, or battery. Don't have to worry with these wonderful Canon cameras, so some days I have shot 1-3,000 shots several times on the weekends.
(PS. I like to pretend my V1 is a G series, as I wish I had chosen that originally! I probably paid around the same price, US$900! - September 03)

My faithful little G3 has is now at Round 14K, slowed a bit since going digital on my SLR.
Hey PitBall, what model of camera do you have? My G3 reset the IMG counter bach to 0 at IMG_9900, yours is up to IMG_29702?

Hey Wazza, just read your sig, you are the Warren who is posting all those shots from Auckland Airport on Airliners! Nice shots, how do you get that close?

LMAO, that is me indeed.
I'm sick today, and am just in the process of uploading 15 more. Probably get a few rejections.
How do I get so close?
Well, I could tell you. Don't really want to advertise it. I'll PM you. :p

In fact the site www.airliners.net is pretty cool if you are into planes, lots of new stuff, some dodgy landings (mainly that old Hong Kong airport), and some good historical stuff too.

Thanks FlyingPete. Great to see another Aucklander on this forum. I'll look out for your POTN camera strap! :D BTW, from my place in Hillsborough I can see the planes landing at the airport. Not quite in range of even Canon glass however! ;)

I have the G3 also. I dont know why it would be like that either. Thats what it downloads them as from the camera. The last one the other day was IMG_29702:confused:
Maybe something crazy going on with it.

I am out in Pakuranga in the flight path of a lot of the international approaches, I can see the planes on approach out the south of our house, but not actually landing, must be a good view!
I haven't ordered a POTN strap  as of yet, but if you see a guy rapiding task switching between shooting (with a camera that is!) planes and keeping an eye on a little girl yelling 'tane! tane!' everytime a plane goes past, then that is probably me ;)

Nah not crazy, probably just different firmware. I'll let you know what my 20D does in about 1000 shots!
The IMG thing is not entirly reliable though. If I take a card out of another Canon that has shot more, it makes my counter jump ahead, that is why I have seperate cards for my G3 and 20D.

Yeah your probably right. How do you like the 20D? (Dumb Question:rolleyes: ) I'm going to pick up the Rebel XT here soon, looking forward to that.:D
Still love my G3 though;)

I've always been an SLR person, my foray into non-SLR digicams was just a temporary thing until I could afford a D-SLR, as for if I like it? Well, I think it will last me quite a few years, I love it! Turned out though that the non-SLR digicams such as the G series are surprizingly powerful, it almost stopped me using my FilmSLR completely.

HAHA just watched you driving on nfs .... very nice driving.
Haha, that was a fun race. Have you played the game?
Don't wanna go off -topic (well obviously we are. .) :p
I am a member of "Speed Kings" : [SK]Wazza
(The largest, best, and friendliest racers in NFS5 :))
Everything turned to custard in 2003. Electronic Arts stopped online racing for NFS4 and NFS5. They had recently stopped MCO - Motor City Online - which Timmyquest plays. ;)
I was also a site, and stat admin for the only non EA statistics page - we made full use of all the data. Designing a full points system, team scoring, and a page to check out the most World Records - that's where I have too much time on my hands again, like most the other top 100 racers.

http://www.nfspu.spb.ru/onlinestatsarchive/DR-world_records_2003_06_26.htm
That was pretty impressive, but to know how many thousands of hours I had played the game from 2000, would shock you. At least I'm putting my interest desires into photography now. :p
The game even won me a few prizes, including a year ago, 2 very nice 1:18 model cars, organised from a NFS friend in Russia.

I just love the internet, and how you make friends globally so easy.
Anyway, if you want more details, or whatever. Just PM me, so we don't override this nice thread. :D

You'll be able to find me easily enough though. I've ordered a POTN strap. But I'm near the end of the order list. Expect mine to be many weeks away.
Unfortunately, I live out in Henderson. So it's a 40min drive to the airport. If it was closer, I would be there everyday, and shooting towards 100,000 shots very quickly. :(
The benefit of living in Henderson, it's only 20min to the beautiful West coast beaches. Hehe.

Between us, we'll have those tourists flocking to these shores.... I thought FlyingPete would have been shooting from the cockpit of some 747. I'll look out for you lurking about the permeter fence at the airport....
