I recently took a pic, and I was really pleased with the colours of the picture, but when i saved the picture, the "brightness" disappeared and i dont' really understand why... it's the first time i've really noticed this effect with photoshop... is it common? Is there a workaround?

Probably the color space. If it looks great in Photoshop but doesn't look good on the web then color space is the most likely issue.
However, a little more info would be nice. What programs did you use to view it? Some steps on re-creating the issue will help us understand the issue better.

Thanks Scottes, you've hit it right on the head... in photoshop it looks great.. but in acdsee or similar it loses it's vitality.
I've done what you suggested and looked at colour space and it seems to be it...
if i use the :-
"image" -> " mode" -> "assign profile" then when i change the image from 'adobe RGB' to 'sRGB' then it does the "not looking so good" thing
not quite sure what to do with this now... as the photo loked 'alive' in adobe rgb, and 'flat' in sRGB :(

PS, the image is "Tulip" in the Nature and Animals section

Sorry I missed this for a couple days...
Don't "Assign Profile" but rather Convert Profile to sRGB. "Convert" will convert the colors from one color space to another color space, more or less changing the colors to the same colors in the new color space. Assign will change just the profile - not the colors - and now the colors aren't lined up properly.
