Hi everyone,

I have come down to a difficult decision. The Olympus 7070 seems like a promising camera and also offers an optional grip for vertical shooting. I've been a canon user all my life and wanted to get the G6 as a backup body for my 20D, but it seems like Olympus has a better camera to offer. Any views and comments will be helpful.

Thank you!

Friends of mine who are EOS veterans bought one of those new Olympus cams - and promptly sold it as it seemed to be an ergonomic nightmare. Really, the G6 is about as good as it gets in a compact.

I personally could not notice any image quality differences. The only reason that the c7070 appealed to me was the option of a battery grip and the magnesium alloy black body.

Has anyone noticed purple fringing in their images. I checked some images on Steves Digicam and saw purple fringing/blue halo around certain areas of the image.

not on my G6.

Dpreviews conclusions also reaffirm the low level of purple fringing on the G6. The Pro1 is not that forgiving though.

I chose the G6 because I can use my 550EX with it, and low ISO performance is superb. Having been used to the EOS way of doing things, using the G6 is very easy, though it took me a week to learn the ins and outs of the G6.

The G6 raw files have loads of data, and it has saved many images of mine which would have otherwise been deleted. With raw shooter essentials, it is easy to handle blown out highlights or blocked shadows.

It seems like G6 is a winner. I have this other post where I'm inquiring about G6 good enough for landscape, and I've been getting positive replies. I'll wait a few more days and jump on it.
