Hey all,
Have any of you tried out the Waxwear model of the Domke bags?
I´m seriously thinking of putting my 40D in that...
I have tried out sooo many bags, maybe this is the one
Cheers

Never tried the waxwear version but have a black F2 that I love. I never hesitate recommending the F2.

Me too.. I have an olive F2 and it's the best thing since sliced bread. It's just the perfect bag, in my opinion.
The Waxwear looks cool, but to me it wasn't worth the extra $, especially since I really wanted olive anyways (I think it's the least conspicuous)

I have had an F-2 for years, it's a fine bag, the waxwear
looks to be a nice bag.

+1 for the black F-2. I like it so much, I've been thinking about getting the ballistic material one also:)
I have seen the waxwear F-2 at B&H. Not bad, but I prefer black.

i'm actually deciding between those two right now. having no way of getting my hands on both of them in person, do you have any specific reasons for your opinion?
i'm a couple days away from buying a black canvas one, but the waxwear one looks interesting. the water repellent characteristic sounds cool, but $60 more sounds steep and i wanted to know how it felt and looked in practice. thanks in advance!

I have never had a problem with my canvas F-2 and water. It keeps my gear dry just fine:) If it's pouring out, water can sneak into the two side velcro pockets(nothing at all really but I wouldn't put a lens in there), but the main compartment is good.
While the canvas version may be the die-hard's favorite, the ballistic version is very nice. It's the F-2, but the ballistic nylon gives the bag a smoother feel - which IMO feels a little more comfortable while walking around. Also, the ballistic nylon won't 'wear' and get the worn feeling like the canvas version, but that's more of a personal choice.
My only gripe with the bag is the steel snap hooks used for fastening the cover closed. I usually carry my 5D2 with 24-70 attached. I'll have the camera facing down so I can reach in, and grab the camera by the grip. If the camera is set up to be near the left or right in the bag, when you open the cover the steel snap hook will hit the screen of the 5D. No marks are left, but I'd rather it not happen. If they'd switch it so the snap hooks were mounted on the bottom of the bag rather than the cover - it'd be perfect.
Regardless, the F-2 is a great bag!

I've been using the olive canvas version for a while, but I wanted to try out the waxwear. It arrived recently from Adorama. It looks and feels great but I haven't taken it out with me yet.
My problem with the bag is the light cream-colored strap. I could see it getting rather unsightly pretty quickly, especially the portion that runs along the bottom of the bag. My camera bags spend a lot of time on the floors of baseball stadiums. I was thinking of scotch-guarding the strap before I take it out with me...

Waxwear one is very new. Like Hangbot, I haven't had any problems with my straight canvas Domke bags in the rain. The F2's a great bag; it was my mainstay for years.

tagvestible, if you can write up a review and include photos, i'm sure we'd all appreciate it very much. :D

OK - Wow. I just got back from B&H after being there for 1.5 hours...
The waxwear F-2 feels NIIIIIICE:) Overall, the bag feels more comfy than my canvas F-2. If it came in black(or if the straps were the same color as the bag), I'd have it right now!

i hate to sound superficial, but price aside, that's my only qualm against the bag. the bright straps against the muted color of the bag itself. :(

Right there with you. For the feel of the bag, I'd pay the extra $60; and I'd pay even more for them to change the color of the strap:D
