It was a gorgeous day to shoot some pictures, but I was mostly stuck inside. Managed to snap this on the way to lunch.

I think this shot suffers greatly from being reduced to 800 high, but I like it enough that I'm gonna post it anyway. The taxi at the bottom of the picture makes it look like a very detailed miniature.

It was one of those chance things, definitely not planned. It was shot from the 3rd deck of the parking garage on 5th & College for any of those familiar with Charlotte, NC.

I was honestly hoping for more comments on this one, critiques, criticism, suggestions, etc.

I would love to know why it looks like a miniature so that I can reproduce the effect. A whole series of cityscape shots with this effect would make a nice addition to my book.

Anyone?

I like the picture, it does look like a detailed miniature. What camera/lens did you use? There seems to be slight keystoning, but when I look carefully this seems to be the effect of the orientation and shapes of the buildings. The true verticals seem to be really vertical. Great job.

Thanks for looking! The camera is the Rebel XT with the kit lens.

Well, This is the SECOND time I've looked at this, and I can kind of see what you mean.
As far as why it has this look seems to be a combination of lens/focal length used, and your particular location when shot, creating a particular perspective. You have to look at these major factors combined to come up with the answer to this.
Best of luck to you,
-Bruce

This proves the kit lens can produce wonderful pictures.

Thanks for coming back, Bruce.

I know, I know, the needy young...er... old newbie wanting validation from his betters, but hey, I'll never get better if I don't get some honest feedback from people who know what the heck they are talking about.

Very nice. I can see what you mean about the miniture effect. I think its because everything looks so clean and tidy. No smudges on the windows, no trash on the streets, the trees are a perfect green etc. As you say, the car just finishes the effect off.
