I will most likely be taking pictures of fire twirlers tonight since it is the summer solstice. Any tips for taking these photos would be greatly appreciated. I will have my rebels xs with kit lens and canon 70-300mm IS lens ( I will bring my Pentax waterproof pocket camera in case it rains a bit).

You might want to bring a tripod and take some longer exposure shots. Somewhere in the 2~10 second range. Use manual settings, take a test exposure and adjust as appropriate. It will be difficult to meter and focus. depending on how dark.

I am very much an amateur and have never used the manual mode on my camera but I'll give it a try. Should I set the camera to Long Exposure noise reduction On or Auto or leave it off and post process in Photo Shop?

Sorry for the double post. I'm thinking I should use centre weighted metering is this a good idea?

Is there a certain ISO range I should stick with? As I'm sure it is evident by now this is my first DSLR and I am new to photography. :)

So much depends on how bright the fire pods are and what effect your looking to get. Here is a thread with a few pics. ISO100 or ISO200 looks fine. Between f/4~f/8 and from 2 seconds upwards.

All these pics have EXIF data intact so you can see the settings used.
