Ok just got in the new YN-462 manual flash from Yongnuo Digital Photographic Equipment (http://www.kurbsterphotography.com/yongnuo.html)
This flash will sell for $40.99 with free shipping from Hong Kong
Here is a photo of the new unpacked YN-462 Manual Flash

Here is a photo of how the YN-462 compares to the YN-460 Manual Flash

This flash ships with a White Flash Diffuser, Instructions, and a nice Black Velet Bag.
The flash does not ship with any stand.
I will be doing some testing, and then posting a full review of it on my Photography Blog (http://www.kurbsterphotography.com) tomorrow morning

Ok guys and gals,
I had started to add to the review of the YN-462 on my blog

Couple of questions, how long did it take to recycle for 1/4, 1/2 and full power? Does it have auto power off (can it be turned off)? Does it have a zoom function? Does it have high speed sync?

The recycle times have been posted on my blog review..
The flash has no automatic power off function, it also does not have a zoom head, or power zoom function.
The flash synced @ 200 with no problems with my Canon Digital Rebel XTi (It's max sync speed is 200)
Hope this helps you some

So out of the 2 models, which would be more beneficial to a newbie like me for OCF?
Thanks..
EDIT:... It may sound like a dumb question, but is there anyway to order multiple items on the site at once.
Thanks..!!

mellofelow,
That's why it's priced at only $40.99
You can always use a Seagull SYK-4 (http://www.kurbsterphotography.com/yongnuo.html) Optical/PC Sync Hot Shoe Flash Adapter to fire the YN-462 with a pc sync cord, or optically from another flash

I think for the price, That the YN-460 would be a better buy then the YN-462. Since the YN-460 offer easier power settings and 2 optical functions
Updated to buying more then one item: You need to use the buy it now button, and confirm the purchase to get to the pay now page. Do not pay now by paypal, instead use the link that says return to sellers store. Then you can select more items the same way, and then after you selected the last item you want. When you get to the pay by paypal now page. You can pay for all items at one time...

I agree. I'd pay the $6 difference for the convenience. Thank you for your review.

how can you change the "f" of this flash??

You can't change the "f" of this flash.
It is a manual flash only. You can change the power output only, then you must adjust your f-stop to match the power output.
You can do this by trial and error or by using the Guide Number to make a calculation. Each time you change the flash to subject distance you will need to change the f-stop.
Manual flash is OK for a studio setting where everything stays put. Out in the real world it sucks.
(This is why auto-thyristor, TTL, and ETTL were invented)

will it be a good third flash with 2 sigma dg-530 for strobist?
or am I better to invest on a Vivitar 285hv?

I would go with the (1st) Mpex.com Lumoprp LP120 $129.99. (2nd) Yongnuo YN-460 now $49.99. But if you like those vitar 283 big as a brick, Then go for it
These are only my personal recommendations, and I am in no way affiliated with either Mpex or Yongnuo Digital

Using one of these on a hotshoe extension cord, could I do the 3.5mm socket mod and link it directly to another one (modified as well)? I have the off camera cord and going to order one of these flashes but would prefer 2 for a macro rig, and dont want to have to buy another expensive cord!

I would think so. I don't have my YN460 flash modded for 3.5mm but it works great off camera with a $5 adapter plug and a cheap homemade sync cord.

What is the simplest option for me- I want 2 off camera YN460 flashes, I have 1 off camera hotshoe cord to go to 1 flash, I can either get another and modify them to share 1 base to feed both flashes or can I just mod both flashes with 3.5mm jack and link them with a straight 3.5mm ends cord?

not sure but I made a simple sync cord out of old modem cord and used a $5 adapter plug. I don't see why you couldn't just connect two flashes like that

Is this what I need? What is the difference between open and closed sockets?! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-Mono-Chassis-Socket-Closed-Switch-M6-Thread-X10_W0QQitemZ150352306812QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Com puting_DesktopComponents_RL?hash=item2301b2227c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

maybe I'm missing something but why the 3.5mm sockets?
why not use sync cord adapters like this ?

Because the hotshoe plug on the bottom of the first flash will be already in use by the off camera cord, thinking about it there wasn't really any point me getting a hotshoe extension cord as the only advantage of them over the cheap sync cords is that you can still use the TTL stuff- if your flash has it!

probably all non-ettl triggers work with the YN462 - wireless like RF-602/603, wired like sync cords and everything in-between

As a few put on the thread you started on the same subject, Yongnuo Rf603 or 602, these are the same manufacturer as your flash, I provided a link in that thread to a supplier on ebay who ships europewide.

I have this flash and the 602s, and they work great, but I would go for the 603s, since the 602s have been discontinued.
