Hi All,
I have this sunset image which was fine when it was in its RAW format, I did some speck romaval, some alignment and cropping during PP and then saved as a high quality Jpeg but as you can see I am getting this banding beneath the sun which I cant seem to get rid of. The only thing I can think of is that it happens during compression but then how do I solve that. Thank you for any help or suggestions in advance.

Are you talking about the arcs below and around the sun? Looks like your limiting the color pallet quite a bit. What settings are you using when converting to jpeg?

Yes exactly the arcs beneath the sun. Here is what Bridge tells me about the image properties:
File Properties
Document Type: JPEG File
Application: Adobe Photoshop CS3 Windows
File Size: 2.66 MB
Dimensions: 900 x 520
Resolution: 240 ppi
Bit Depth: 8
Colour Mode: RGB
Colour Profile: Adobe RGB (1998)
Camer RAW
White Balance: Custom
Temperature: 6550 K
Tint: 0
Exposure: -0.05
Recovery: 0
Fill Light: 0
Blacks: 3
Brightness: +50
Contrast: +46
Vibrance: 0
Here is the image information I grabbed from the properties. I believe it obtains the sRGB colour profile.

I still don't get what arc you were talking about. Can you draw an arrow on the pic and show it to us ?

If you tilt your laptop/pc screen downwards it is a little more visible. I think it is from the compression from RAW to JPEG. I wouldn't know what would fix that though, maybe the clone tool with a very small brush. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you plan on printing.

OH I see it now, I sometimes have that if I lower the contrast or brightness.

Are you talking about the posterization evident beneath the sun?
