After some urging from my photography professor I want to start my online portfolio but really have no idea what to do. I have been looking through some members zenfolio and understand I can buy a domain and have it redirceted to zenfolio so my pictures are hosted and have a nice presentation(then upgrade one day to my own hosted site and stuff)

My main issue is just figuring out a name for my portfolio. Yes it should be as easy as my first and last name and photography. But its not working to well.

My name is Joseph Gravelle and my last name gets butchered every single time I meet a new person.. So far its 1 in 10 that get it correct and I really don't want to be correcting clients on my last name bit.

my initials are JRG(joseph robert gravelle) but that just doesnt have like any flair in my eyes.. JRG Photography kinda rymes but I am not liking it.

I have been thinking of

304 Photo
Stainless Images

other than that I got nothing.

JRG Images? or just JGImages.

that would eliminate the little rhyming thing that you didnt like

I LIKE PHOTOGRAVE.COM!!!! its catchy, but taken. It is easy to remember and has a bit of the unknown to it, so you are free to shoot whatever you want. However Gravephoto.com is available.

photosfromthegrave.com
graveyardphoto.com

I can think of things all day with using just part of your name. The site can be titeled anything you want, so the domain name does not have to be the same.

lol creeeepy.

I wanted to do 304Photography like 304 stainless steel.. its timeless, stainless, and etc... but someone on myspace is using that. they have an email 304photography@not a real domain.com .. like a gmail or yahoo account so its surely nothing serious.

still not sure..

Try not to go with catchy titles to represent your brand. Let your brand be built around your name. Your taste and style over your career are likely to change and evolve. Your name most probably will not. Eventually your client is going to wonder what your last name is! Get it out in the open. My first name is French and therefore not pronounced how you would first assume. It is Elise but pronounced "E-Liz." Taking a couple of second to tell my client how to pronounce my name has never been anything other than part of the "getting to know you" part of our meetings.
