Melanerpes carolinus - didn't know we had these around here.
Light was getting low - I could only manage 1/30 shutter speed,
so this one is way below the bar for this forum. But it's a lovely bird and worth a look.

That's a beautiful bird, I hope you get to shoot it again in better light, thanks for sharing.

Wow, that's a beautiful woodpacker, tupe.
I saw one the other day. Its red pony tail was not big as this one, but i had a wrong lens on my camera. When i finishes changing the lens, we all know what happened next. :)

I know what you mean. I'm looking through the window in the front door and see a great photo op in the tree outside. I deftly open the door, the bird flies away. (Could it be the cat at my feet?):evil:

I am convinced birds are camera shy, I can sneak up on them without a camera, but if I have the camera they are gone before I open the door!!
