OK so this is a photo post & a question all in one. I was outside taking photos of my three year old daughter. I was getting a lot of shadows under her eyes, so I decided to give the pop-up flash a try for fill. I had the flash intensity dialed all the way down...or so I thought, but the pics still came out really washed out. I was about 4-5 feet away from her with the 28-75mm zoomed all the way in. Anyway, my B&W's are an attempt at rescue work. I will include the SOOTC pictures with the EXIF in the hopes that someone can tell me what I am doing wrong...other than "you are trying to use the pop-up flash" I would like to understand why it happened, if anyone has any theories. Thanks in advance and cronstructive C welcome on the edits.

I was going for a "high key B&W" look:

Original: 75mm, f/2.8 (Av mode), 1/197sec., ISO 100, pop up flash

Slightly recomposed in Photoshop:

ok.. let me see if i can help..

your shots are alittle over exposed.. (hot)
your loosing detail in her face..

the easy fix IF you shot in raw is to lower the exposure untill you gain the detail back..

and as for tips.. i own a xsi and the same tammy lens.. so i may be able to offer you some of my personal experience with a simular dslr setup..

don't bother going all the way down to f.28 in broad day light.. there is no need to shoot that wide.. f4.5 or even f.8 with say iso 200 and a decent shutter speed can yield great results.. try it

and shoot raw if you arn't already to make adjustments after the fact.
