View Full Version : Team Photo Question

Hey all,

Quick question. I grabbed this photo on the field after a paintball match at the team's request - I was on shooting the game and they asked me to take a shot. My question is this -although I was obviously not equipped ideally in this situation (using a 70-200 f/4L on a 1.6 body), I'm not exactly enarmoured with the sharpness of the players, especially on the right side. I was using centerpoint AF, carryover from the match. I'm not sure if it is a property of the setup I used or if I just missed the focus (I took a few in quick succession, all like this), but it just didn't come out as I hoped. Is this a limitation of the lens on the wide side, the fact that I am pretty far away, or something else? I am pretty experienced with sports shots but I've never done any team photo work.

Thanks,

Dan

I agree with Dave, you need to stop down the aperture to something like f/8.

I have done the same thing many times and went to take a quick post game team picture without remembering to change my settings from the action settings. You don't need the blazing fast shutter speeds you do for action with a group shot and you want more DOF as well.

actually not a terrible photo at all. Like the others stated, f8-f10, bump the ISO if you have to and I am mixed on the focal point. I have had success using multi AF and center point AF.

Still a great photo (except for the guy in black ruining the frame). LOL

the photos looks great just a little adjustment on contrast and like what "canonnob" stated shoot at least around f8 and up and you will get a nice dof other than that the pic is good to go

Thanks everyone. I have one similar without the guy in the frame. I'll remember next time to bump the aperture to get the better DOF.
