I was at samys camera LA today getting a elan 7.
First off the first camera i got was DOA luckly I tried it in the parking lot before driving back to riverside!

anyways I walk back in and go the same guy and show him whats up and so he says no problem and tell me hell be back in a min.

Next to me there are some people from belgum buying a drebel kit, a 70-200 F2.8l IS, and a 15mm Fisheye.

Dude comes back and says thier out of elan 7 but he has a 7N that he will give it to me for 300 OTD. So i say sure!
While he is exchanging the cameras the people next to me are finishing the sale and the sales person says "would you like filters for the lens"

The buyer says "Ill take the cheapest"
I start laughing under my breath and the guy doing my exchange says, "your going to spend $1600 on a lens then put a cheap filter on it?"

I tell them as it would be better to just use the lens hood that comes with it if they dont want to spend the money on a decent filter.

I just find it funny that people are willing to spend soo much money for lens and stuff then turn around a buy cheap acessories. I was about to tell them to just get hte 70-200 2.8 non is and save the extra money towards a rebel xt but then again thats not my place.

There is a 'rule' for hi-fi hear to spend 10% of your budget on cables, alot of people don't worry too much about cables, but to a point they do make a difference.

I wonder if you could apply a simular rule to lenses?

I wonder if there is a market for a quick release filter, like a lens cap so you can use it to protect the lens most of the time but quickly remove for important shots?

thats a good idea, mainly for i would think polarizing filters. Since those are the most common filters other than UV / Skylight. That way people dont have to screw on and potentially miss the shot.

Better get a patent before a roaming eye takes it.
