what the heck is that sausage.. It's very distracting to not know what I'm looking at.. It looks quite dirty.. It's a sharp image but makes my stomach turn for some reason..

It's old rusty steel chain, about 60 years old and still in use!!
Each link is only about 2 1/2 inches long.

Something different!

Which lens did you use, and how did you do the close up. You know macro filters, did you use a tripod?

I used the EF 18-55mm Kit lens from about 2 feet away hand held.

Have to get back to you on exact parameters.

I like it. I've never got anything that sharp from my 18-55. Nice!

nice and sharp, but it seems a little odd to see a shiny rusty chain. Had it been raining? Coated?

It's a damp place and theres a bit of oil and grease on them.

Interesting shot. Sharp and I like that rust. You said it's oiled...the rust of burned metals (burned in fire) have the same look, shiny.

I like the composition too.
One thing isn't specific on my taste : the red border of the picture. But that is just my taste :)

Where do you work ? And what that chains sustain ?

I work in a Co-generation Plant and this is from the old pumphouse.
These chains are from a lift for transporting material from 1st to second floor.
It's a 550 MW plant. We supply steam and hydro to customers as well as supply hydro to the grid. ( old and new )

Dan

I was not sure about the red border either!!

I have my degree in Thermo-electrical Power Plants !!!
I work in Energetic domain but in electrical field !

What kind of material do those chains transport ? 550MW one turbo-generator group ? Or more ?

Sorry for off-topic ! ;)
Nice to meet you ! ;)

Those chains are just to support a small lift, oil drums, turbine, compressor parts
etc. Bty trade we are called Operating Engineers as we are responsable for running the plants. At present there is 4 levels, 1st being the highest. I have 2 more exams
to attain my 2nds ( too old for all this schooling )
Oh well it's a living and it pays for the toys!! What kind of power plant do you work in?

No power plant at all. I would like to work in one (turbines, steam and heat transfer was more interesting to me than electricity ) but...the things turn out a little different and I work in electric field ( electric networks and transformer substations ).

I had the oportunity to step in few power plants during my faculty. In fact the first one was the one my father worked in. He was...aaa...in don't know how to say in English...his job was to take care about the boiler ( you know, steam pressure, water flow, gas flow...and so on).

I think it would be very interesting for me to enter again in a power plant but with a digital camera this time. I guess I would find pretty interesting things around.

Good Luck with your exam :)
