Thanks for your views, the spider scared the hell out of my eldest daughter, i think it's a huntsman, maybe someone will correct me on that. The first shots i took was with the spider curled up so to get to spread them out i just touched a litle and hey presto. What did you think of the b+w shot? It was in colour but it looks alot better in b=w because the detail of the frost came put better?

Hi Mannytdk. Some nice shots. I'm a fan of filling the frame so those shots appeal to me. Good colours and detail. I do like the spider in particular. Go shoot some more.

All nice clear shots, though I am not sure about the B&W one as I would not have known what I was looking at until you told us. The photos are really sharp which is great. Only thing I would say is that they are all very centered. I am a beginner too so you can safely ignore me, "the rule of thirds" may be worth searching for on this forum. I still take photos centered though and I hate deciding where to crop .... but it does make a positive difference when you get it right.

Thank you all for the feed back, i think it's important to share an interest in this field of work, where we can all help each other for tips and advice. Now for some of the Q'S i've been asked, the camera is a G6-set at super macro, the spider, now think of the size of the G6 LCD screen, the legs would have gone over the edges only by a bit, and the body would've gone half way, and as for the rule of thirds, yes i am going to look into it to see peoples views especially with a digicam.

I'm not new to photograhy by any means, i've some sort of camera since 1986 even medium format, but very new to digital and i love it, no more buying film then taking them foe development only most of the time to disapointed with a great loss. Now i can delete while out and about to save space on the card.

not bad, the only thing that I didn't like was the flash killed the plant. If you have photoshop try to edit it a bit. It looks to bright in some places, Other than that I like them. Nice job.

I did turn the power of the flash down end even used the built-in ND filter, all the other were very over exposed but there gone now.

not bad, the only thing that I didn't like was the flash killed the plant. If you have photoshop try to edit it a bit. It looks to bright in some places, Other than that I like them. Nice job.

specially the one in BW, it makes one think...
good pics are the ones catching the eye
well that one did because i did not know what it was. I think is great.

About the rule of thirds.... you are the one making the rules.... for sure the thirds rule makes better framed pics or better composed but sometimes you can break the rule and get great shots as well.
If we all know it is a bee or a flower you can frame the pic in a way that you do not waste all those valuable pixels. Like focusing only on the head of the insect or just the petals of the flower you will get better macro results like the one you did in BW

Thanks for that, the bee was on the ground thats why it's above. The B+w was the first macro i did with the G6. I took quite a few on the cold morning, the photo in quistion was also hand held, so i took it for pot luck too if i'm to admit. I had tried macro hen i used 35 mm but to me it's a hit and miss subject especially for an amature but with digy you can see what your taking and adjust as required, GREAT.
