I recently bought a BGE1 battery grip, the problem being that when i try to charge the batteries they dont charge, the light on the charger flashes for about 5 secs, then falshes quicker for another 5 secs then goes red, even with a completely dead battery, now its only doing this on batteries that have gone into the grip, it works fine until they are discharged.
anyone else have this issue or know of it and was i ripped off????:(

I haven't had any issues like that withy my BGE1. The path for the batteries to the camera is straightforward and it seems unlikely that the grip would cause a charging problem with your battery. Maybe your charger is the problem?

charger works fine on the battery that hasnt been in the grip, 3 other 3 all exhibit the same issue. Canon have said they will take it and look at it, but as i didnt buy it, i will have to pay for repair unless i can find a receipt. the 3 batteries are not covered so are going to be going in the bin if i cant fix them.

Are you using genuine Canon batteries?

the 2 that came with it are not, but the canon battery i had went in it and came out not working. I have a couple of friends who use non canon batteries in their gripo and mix types but have no problem..

right well i contacted the guy who sold me the grip, he assured me it was all fine, so i started looking at it all again. Found that the charger has a sticking left hand terminal, so it works with the first battery i put in it, then wont work after that unless i 'free' it up again. I suspect its got something in it. You cant see the terminal is sticking down unless you look at the terminals from the end, then you can see its slightly lower, when a battery goes on it it pushes down but doesnt come back up high enough to make a solid connection. might send that back to canon instead, lol

Whew! Glad to hear it is not the grip! Sounds like you found the problem and it is an easy fix, good deal!

Me too...I was starting to worry about using mine for a moment there. Glad you got to the bottom of it.
