I hate how canon limit's it's cameras in order to add "extra" features such as high speed shutter sync, when clearly the camera can handle fast shutter speeds.

The flash is a 580ex II, triggered by cheap radio triggers, using CHDK in shutter override to 1600 with the lens pointed at the flash. Normally, the fastest shutter speed sync on the camera even in manual mode is 1/250 while retaining ettl. this test however does not rely on ettl, moreso the fact that the camera can trigger up to the shutter speed of 1/1600 and even 1/2000 quite safely. Anything above 1/2500 however the flash does not trigger fast enough.

On the other hand, the canon s5 can use it's built in flash to trigger up to a whopping speed of 1/80,000 using chdk, fast enough to stop water in air with crisp clarity. with your slaves set on optical, you can effectively get a fast shutter speed with the built in flash!

:p God i love the canon s5. if only they put a 5d sensor in this camera....

Exif data
Camera Model = Canon PowerShot S5 IS
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/2500 second = 0.0004 second
# Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 27/10 = F2.7
# ISO Speed Ratings = 80
