I am alpha testing my new sharpening toolkit. It uses Javascript, rather than actions. So it is a lot more powerful and flexible.

While experimenting with capture sharpen settings, I find that I can get virtually indistinguishable results with the new Smart Sharpen filter alone on a layer compared with dual USM (light/dark contours) for edges followed by a third USM for surface details.

That means *A LOT LESS* overhead. Two fewer layers and three fewer layer masks.

Smart Sharpen is a very impressive filter.

Cheers,

Mitch
