I have B-M 695 (5 section) monopod that I just bought used and have a few days left when I can return it for a full return.

I also have a Gitzo tripod with a small RRS ballhead, quick release plate and L bracket. Here's the setup:

I'd like to use the head on the monopod when I head to the Galapagos later this year.

I shoot with an XSi and am getting a 70-200 f4, which I may use with a Kenko 1.4 tc, along with an after market lens mount to balance the load.

I'd like to remove the platform from the monopod so that I: 1. save a couple of ounces and 2. am sure that the head is really tightly locked on to the monopod. The platform appears to have no way to remove it. Bogen says it can't be removed. Does anyone know if this is really so?
Thanks
Stephanie

The camera/head platform on Manfrotto monopods is designed for mounting heads on it. Don't even think about removing the platform. Just screw the head onto the monopod's platform. The platform probably has a combination stud that will allow you to either mount a camera (which uses a 1/4-20 thread) or a head (typically using a 3/8-16 thread).
