Hello everybody,

I've taken some good photography classes lately and I've learned how to do cool stuff with an external flash. However, I want to buy one of my own and I'm not sure which ones are good and what kind of price I should expect.

My camera is a Canon EOS 450D (the American name is the Rebel XSi, I believe), with a standard 18-55 mm lens.

Any good advice? Thanks in advance!
Iris

Canon 430 EX II. Reasonable compromise between cost and performance.

Canon 580EX II, maybe a bit expensive but really powerful Canon flash, at least it can be a Master or a Slave, 430EX is only used as a Slave with another flash.

430EX - and as a point of clarification, it will work fine on the camera by itself. It will give full automatic flash (ETTL) and full manual control. It will act as a slave in a Canon master/slave environment but not as a master.
