I apologize if this has been covered by my searches did not yield the results I was looking for. While I am still new to the photography world, I am not new to the world of website development. But this experience is not helping me find a good PHP based program that allows me to upload and host my own photos. I am looking for something similar to flickr as I enjoy the categorization feature and ease of use. Also a program that automatically places a watermark on the image would be great.

I have attempted to use Gallery2 (http://gallery.menalto.com/) but have run into issues with uploading feature as it freezes on me, no matter the image size.

I am on a Linux based server with Pearl 4 installed right now, but if necessary, will change hosts to get Pearl 5 (it has been a huge ordeal between myself and the host).

I thank you all in advance.

I think SmugMug can give you automatic watermarking.

For me, I designed my website and I have a friend that knows PHP/MySQL, so he helped my design my gallery.

You might look into Photocart (pictures-pro.com). I don't use it, but have plans to try it out at some point. I've seen many good reviews, and my brief scan says it looks nice.

Dunno if it's php4 or 5.

try pixelpost.org with their plugins and templates i use it on my site www.ks-foto.com the watermarking is completely left to the program . You can integrate shopping carts contact forms, everything - its very flexible and free.

1) It's PERL not Pearl. :-) Also, Gallery is written in PHP, but Perl.

2) What method of upload are you using that is freezing up on you? You using Gallery Remote, or the One file at a time Upload directly from the web? You probably downloaded the one without the JRE version because it's smaller. It looks like whatever version of java you have installed on your system is incompatible. Uninstall and download the Gallery Remote that includes its own JRE.

3) Gallery has a full watermark capability, you just design your watermark, save it as GIF or PNG (so it has transparency support) and apply that to your gallery(or galleries). It's Under Site Admin -> Display -> Watermarks. Or you can get it from an individual gallery if you only want it one one.

Mine is HERE (http://www.ambrosiabbs.com/gallery/)
