Hey all,
Here's some shots of my girlfriend's new kitties. She found two strays in her backyard and about a week later the 3rd one showed up. Apparently it was still hanging out with it's mother who lives around the backyard once in a while, and being fed by the neighbours. She adopted the 3 of them and they seem to be very happy about it.
The introductions: They are named Edgar, Ellen and Poe :D
Edgar (turned out to be a girl after all, but sticking with the name).

I don't care who you are, if you don't look at those shots and go "Awwww", there's something seriously inhuman about you.
Very good shots of some very adorably subjects.

These are excellent shots! I love the dof in all of them :) I don't particularly like cats or kittens, but the shot of Edgar with the barbwire is precious!

Hey all, old, OLD thread revived, but there's an update, Ellen had babies!
On wednesday she had five beautiful kitties, but unfortunately, two didn't make it. One (gray with Ellen's print) died the second day (not in these pics) and the darker one didn't make it through last night.
I uploaded some pics on flickr.
Here's the set with all of them. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mdstoop/sets/72157624160226358/)
And here's some of my favorites of the new kittens. They are still very tiny and their eyes are closed - no names yet though!
Click on the pics for bigger versions. These were all shot with Canon's 28mm 1.8.

awww just adorable ones of the little babies .. Cats are such good mums, noone to tell them how to do things when they are first time mums, no books or magazines or videos to watch .. everything is natural and instinct. My own cat Millie 14yrs ago had 3 kittens and she was just amazing. We got her desexed at approx 8mths old and she was pregnant again. aargh.
Love the previous lot of pics.. the pics of Poe, the little brown tabby looks a little ill, his eyes aren't as healthy as they should be.
Are you going to keep the little kittens too ?

Well, in the last year a few things didn't all go as planned. Poe got sick soon after the first batch of pictures, but we nursed him back to health. Feeding made him very grumpy - pic here :D

A few months ago, he has run off to conquer his own territory, since the neighborhood there (my gf's house) is very territorial and they are all outdoor kitties.
We're considering adopting one or two of the new kitties for my place, but we'll see about that in a few weeks.
I too was surprised by the mother instincts these cats have though, it's also quite harsh at times. If they consider a kitten to be weak, they'll just abandon it and move the healthy kittens somewhere else. Unfortunately this happened to the other two...

I hope that all of these you are adopting and then allowing to breed are now fixed - same with the new batch, though!

Hey thnx for that that little update :) the eyes are usually how you can tell if the kitty is unwell and Poe really didn't look it.
More beautiful pics of kittens. Sheldon is a looker isn't he !

Thanks for all the encouragement!
I agree, sheldon is a beautiful kitten. He's also much, much further in development than his two brothers/sisters... my guess is Sheldon is the male and the other two - "gray stripe" and "black stripe" for now - are girl-kittens.
Anyway, here's another one of my favorite model being dominant at such an early age (5 weeks)):

I can't seem to get enough of the 100mm @ 2.8 shallow depth of field images of kittens ;)
Maybe I can do a timelapse next time... break the pattern :)
