Hi everyone,

I've been shooting with an XTI and am comfortable with what I can do with it. However, I know that I should have a 2nd camera to use for the day.

I can go a couple different routes, so I would greatly appreciate advice.

Option 1/2 - Budget allows for a 40d or a 5d (used). Keep my xti as backup. Which would serve me best for wed photos (usual low light, etc.), 40d/5d?

Rent suggested lenses for the day.17-55 F2.8 IS and 70-200 F2.8 IS

Option 3 - Rent the body and one lense, and buy a 17-55 f2.8.

Please help out :)

You don't have time to become familiar with another camera, i'd suggest you rent another XTi. After that get a 40D or 5D, whichever you prefer. I prefer the 40D as then I can use the 17-55 F2.8 IS lens. The 5D has slightly lower noise though, but won't take a 17-55 lens.

Thanks Tim. Point taken on getting used to the camera!

After the fact, would you suggest investing in the body (since its a fact I'll need another camera), or the lens (and keep renting bodies)?

I don't know rental prices, you'll have to work out what makes more sense for yourself. You need both, obviously, if you want to do this regularly.

Have you read the wedding faq (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=255604)?
