I'm a Canon G1 new user and use ACDSee system. Is the BreezeBrowser better?

For me, you can't beat ACDSee for viewing. The ability to fill the entire screen without menu bars and automatic slide show presentations is primo.

But, at this time, ACDSee will not read RAW files. There may be a plug-in in the future but I havn't seen one to date. BreezeBrowser will show RAW, give histograms, convert RAW to jpeg or tiff, and more. It is not, however, a full screen viewer. (Unless I am doing something wrong.)

If you shoot in RAW, which many do, BreezeBrowser is a great tool. For ACDSee viewing, I must convert my RAW files which is time consuming regardless of the program you use.

Also, let me plug the Downloader by Chris Breeze. It is totally free and has saved my hide when Zoombrowzer took a dump and refused to see my camera. I simply downloaded Downloader and have used it ever since. I love the way it catalogs my camera downloads by date and saves exif information as a different file.

I've been in touch with Chris Breeze recently, and he has on his list, he says, a way to view images full screen. He, too, would have to convert the RAW files to TIFF format, however; the images he displays for the RAW files now are the 640 x 480 jpegs embedded in the RAW files.

I guess I'm confused and uninformed; I could learn something else here.

I didn't realize there was an embedded jpeg image in the RAW data and that it is so large; 640x480 is my screen area settings which should be more than enough to view full screen. Also, (question #2) if it is .jpg then it is compressed and therefore not the true RAW image I am viewing on the screen. Did I miss something or have I moved into the super-techno area of RAW-JPEG-BREEZEBROWZER that you would have to kill me if you let it out?

Thanks.

Polyview works with RAW files and does slideshows and stuff (download the main program and the Canon plug-in).

AcdSee 4.0 can read, display and convert raw crw files, even straight from the camera.
I'm not even using any of the software supplied by Cannon. Combo of Breeze downloader, AcdSee and Photoshop works the best.
