Anyone with experience?

Since I cannot bring all of my gear to a store to test fit and the manufacturers' sites are vague to say the least I request from the forum a suggestion on the best shoulder/gadget bag to carry:

xt body
kit lens
50 1.8
75-300
sigma 500 flash

not much else
smaller is better - will get giant bag later for lens bloat
waterproof is nice
tripod loop is nice

thanks

That doesn't sound like much gear, why can't you take to the store? I did, with just about the same set up and found a great bag by Lowepro. I think it's a Nova 3 AW, at least that's what's on the back. Good luck, and don't forget the batt. charger, spare batt., cleaning materials.

I carry the below lenses, SLR camera and a P&S, cables, filters, batteries etc. in the Lowepro bag in my signature....I am getting the 300 f4L soon and the 20D so I will either have to get a second bag or a bigger bag. This bag is quite large though.....

$180 CDN when I bought it

A good bag for you to grow into that isnot all that costly and easy to carry is the Tamrac Superlight 48.

I fit a 300d w/ a 28-300 & 18-55, a Sigma EF500DG Super, Xtra Batteries, Filters, and sometime my CD burner, Xtra CF in a Tamrac Velocity 9. Bought fromAmazon for $45 free shipping. Best of all it doesn't look like a Camera bag, stays on my body at all time while shooting. Draw back no tripod strap, but I'm working on a way to attach it to the bag.

This is the one I got: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=15987&is=REG
It easily fits three lenses and a flash. I actually have four lenses and a flash in there right now along with filters and some other stuff. I like it because it's small, very nondescript, and isn't bulky (full of padding) like most camera bags. It sits on the hip nicely (it's a shoulder bag) and I don't look like I'm lugging around lots of photo equipment.

I have the Lowepro NOva 3 AW - it nice and compact for travelling.

I carry 10D with medium lense attached, another small/med lense, Canon 550EX flash, battery charger for flash and the hood for the 2 lenses. The front pockets can carry about 3/4 batteries and there is an inside one for CF cards. Very pleased with it.

P.S. I would like though to have a small bag for the 10D and tamron 28-75 - something like the Canon EH 16 L which I had for the 300D and 18-55. So if you are outwalking or on a boat trip - it is barely bigger than the size of the camera.

A bag you can grow into. Great for taking all your gear when you travel. Excellent in inclement weather and comfortable to carry for long stretches, even with most of the gear listed in my signature.

I am always concious of 'real use' as opposed to 'ideal' use. When I was looking for a bag I started out with the idea of getting one that could carry all my gear.

Then I realized that such a bag would be quite big, especially if I allowed room for growth.

So I have a 2 bag plan. I have the first one, and this is my shoot bag - the one I pack for particular excursions. It is the Lowepro Mini trekker 200. Right now it contains:

Body with Tamron lens attached
70-200
17-40
50mm 1.8
lens hoods
batteries
memory cards
charger
cleaning gear
Monopod in loop

This is a neat, easily accessible and very compact setup.

You will see it does not currently contain my flash unit (see signature). I have packed it for something where I won't need the flash.

I will eventually get a larger bag, which can contain everything, for bigger trips. But I like the option of a relatively small backpack.

Being a NYer my rec don't carry shoulder bags. Too easy to snatch. Backpack and messenger bags are better. I got the Velocity 9 because I don't like to put down the bag. Too easy to forget and too easy for snatcher to snatch. For the equipmnet you've list Mr.Photoguy is right Velocity 7 is big enough. With Velocity 9 You can load 1 long lens and 2 small lens like the ones you mention and 1 lens on the body plus the flash in comfy.

Indeed, I keep the V7 on my back constantly. I just swing it around, pull out the camera, snap the pic, and then put the camera back.

Sometimes in crowded areas I will swing the v7 around to the front so that I can keep a better eye on my goods.

However, I can hold.
A 70-200 f4L on camera, in the center
A 420, or 550 ex in one of the sides
A Tamron 28-75, and a 50mm stacked on the other side.

or I can carry, one lens on body, with two flashes, batteries, and other stuff.

Depending on what I need to do, I can carry a lot in the Velocit 7.
A very good bag.

I like the Lowepro Micro Trekker 100...backpack, holds lots of stuff in a very small package. I prefer a backpack even though it has to be set down to (un)load because it frees my hands to deal with my child and the rest of the world. The Micro Trekker 100 holds my DReb with grip attached, a flash, and three lenses.
For a larger package, I use the Canon 100EG backpack.
Both of these are available at B&H and fine stores everywhere.

I just bought an Adoram Slinger. I hope it's a good bag.

I use my Slinger when I'm only taking a little stuff (one body, 15-30 Sigma, 24-70 L, 75-300 IS and flash, for instance) along. It does just fine for that.
