$1495 for the 1 head kit; $2200 for the 2 head kit. Pricing is virtually the same as Vistek in Canada has had posted for weeks.
Let the pre-ordering commence!

Where are these units buit?
The prices of elinchrom stuff in India seems to be quite a bit less than here in US. I hope same is true for these quadras.

What is the difference between the A head and the S head?

Think A = Action, S = Standard. The "A" head has shorter flash duration than the "S" head and the price you pay for that (apart from the price you pay for that) is supposedly shorter flashtube life.

The S head us supposed to have longer "lifetime" as far as the flash tubes goes, its also supposed to be slightly more consistent in color output compared to the A head. The diffrence is most likely negible though, but if your picky and do color critical work, mixing A and S heads might not be the best solution.

Actually, that seems ALOT steep IF you're comparing it to the base Ranger RX system. However, a 400WS Lumedyne kit which is not nearly as sophisticated as the Quadra would run about $1540 at B&H:

Soooo, the Quadra, while definitely an expensive piece of jewelry, appears to be "well positioned" relative to the competition.
No argument, though, that on a dollars-per-watt second basis, the Ranger RX looks like an absolute bargain (but then it isn't cute like the Quadra!).

WOW!! that lumedyne is outrageously priced for sure compared to the the Quadra!!
I was soo excited to get the Quadra - but now when I look at the price (2200) for the 2 head solution, I might be better off spending it on a Ranger RX first.......... hmmm........ decisions, decisions!!

The kits are not identical, but look at these Amazon prices:
$2365:
Elinchrom EL 10287 Ranger RX Speed AS Set with A Head, Reflector, Varistar 2 Batteries and Ranger Case
$2330:
Elinchrom EL 10291.1 Ranger Quadra Kit with 1 Ranger Quadra Power Pack, 2 Batteries, 2 "A" Heads, 2 Reflectors, 1 Skyport Transmitter, Hard Shell Case, Cables and Charger
The Ranger RX kit contains a single head and no Skyport functionality but it does provide you with the very nice Varistar umbrella and reflector.
Would you be willing to trade one head and the Skyport functionality for an additional 700WS? How much is small and light worth to you? Do you plan to use modifiers larger than 1m in diameter?
I dunno. These are different tools for different jobs and thus not directly comparable but, if it meets your requirements, the Ranger RX looks like an excellent value proposition.
Finally, to make you feel truly miserable, according to the camelcamelcamel.com site, back in January Amazon was briefly selling the EL 10287 kit for (are you sitting?) $1512. Yeah, I can't believe I missed it either.

$1512??!!! How did that happen?? Was that a special deal from Elinchrom or something??
In any case...... I am thinking actually in the line of the Ranger RX (not the speed/AS version). Which will give me extra cash to purchase an extra head.
Hmmm.......... this one is gonna be tough........

Who knows? The Ranger EL 10280 kit that's now $1818 at Amazon was $1346 the end of February. I guess you really have to keep your eyes open.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! As I recall, you weren't particularly respectful toward my Barney the Dinosaur purple Elinchrom 600RXs.
Get over it Rudi. Your Ranger RX isn't as cute as a Quadra.

The way I look at it, unlike the Quadra, which is tiny, at least I can't easily misplace my Ranger...
...or mistake it for a Fisher-Price toy! :p :D

Maybe we should organize some Ranger/purple RX/Quadra peace talks... I'm thinking somewhere neutral... how does Fiji sound? :D
Jannie

Fiji is fine but I think that everyone who shows up should get a California Sunbounce Pro kit!

Made the decision to go with the Quadra's after all. Pre-ordered at Amazon for the 2 head kit. I figure the extra battery will be needed for all day shoots while the other one is charging. Hopefully it will arrive before July 18th- have a big outdoor shoot that day. If not, then the Ranger RX it will be in the meantime.
