Can anyone tell me what the sweet spot for this lens is? And @ what focal length will you see the sharpest image? Thanks much!

f/8 - f/11 and between 70-135 worked good before I sold it. Less than f/8 and images were fine personal stuff, but not good enough for work. J

Ya, that's about what I saw too, f/8-f/13. I seem to shoot allot at 50mm and looks pretty good there as well...just sort of in the middle of the focal length I guess, but I notice the sharpness factor in the aperture then in the focal length personally. I really try to avoid the top 2 widest apertures if I can help it on this lens, but it's not really that bad, I think it is better then allot of the non-L lens.

At f/11 I think mine is sharper than both my 17-40L and recently acquired 24-70L.

ya, I couldn't hardly tell at f/11 with my 17-40 and my 50mm 1.8.

Don't forget f/8 is really good too. For indoor shots I almost always keep it on f/8 and let the flash compensate for the lighting.

Maxima. I looked for a 28-135mm image. This was handheld @70mm and f/13, my sweetspot for this lens. Plane of focus through apples near her left hand. The reducing/sharpening for jpg does not do this lens image justice when at its best. In original, the apples high up and back were appropriately blurry.

This was part of an apple promotion. Subject matter not interesting to you guys, but the image color, contrast, sharpness were good for consumer lens. Hope that helps your assessment. J

I'm selling my 28-135mm on eBay (purchased a 70-200mm f/4 instead). I just wasn't happy with it, despite generally favorable reviews. Overrated, I thought.

From the reviews I've seen and this lens' ratings, I think eBay is the sweet spot for it.
:) Sorry couldn't resist. But try the Tamron 28-75 instead. Anything over f3.5 is the sweet spot on it.
