Pictured is a replica P-38 of the one flown by the "Ace of Aces', Major Richard Bong. Major Bong grew up in northern Wisconsin, and the plane is part of the WWII museum in Superior, WI. He is credited with shooting down at least 40 enemy aircraft, and was a Medal of Honor recipient. The plane was named after his wife, Marge. He was killed in 1945 while testing a P-80 jet which malfunctioned in California. Of the several thousand p-38's made, only 27 remain. Bob

Was this taken at the Pacific Aviation Museum? I wonder, would that be a part of... the plane is part of the WWII museum in Superior, WI.

This photo was taken at the WWII museum in Superior, Wisconsin. I think the facility has been open for a few years. Major Bong grew up in Popular, Wisconsin, a very small community about 20 miles east of Superior; he's buried at the Popular cemetery. Bob

Yes they should have. I'M A B-17 fan and I've read where there are only 14 left, including one in our area. They even offer rides.....at $425 a pop. When I was a youngster we live only a couple miles from Douglas Air Base (O'Hare Field now) right after the war. I recall my dad taking me to see all sorts of WWII planes; as well as the ones that flew over. Bob

thank you for saying "recipient" of medal of honor, not "winner"
